Monster Mitts

I needed something to cover my baby’s hands this Halloween so I made these mitts to match his costume.

Skill Level: Beginner
Finished Size: 6 – 9 month old

Bulky Yarn
Contrasting Worsted Weight Yarn
7 & 8 DPN
H crochet hook
Needle for tucking ends

With bulky yarn and smaller DPNs, cast on 20.

Knit 2, Purl 2 ribbing for 6 to 8 rows.

Switch to larger DPNs and knit each row until it measures 4 inches from bottom (including ribbing).

Knit 2 together, knit 3 – repeat until end of row.

Knit one row.

Knit 2 together, knit 2 – repeat until end of row.

Knit 2 together, knit 1 – repeat until end of row.

knit 2 together until end of row.

Use yarn to tie together remaining stitches, tuck in ends.

For center pads:

Use worsted weight and crochet hook.  10 single crochet in a magic loop, join with slip stitch, chain one and 2 single crochet all the way around for 20 stitches, join with slip stitch.  Sew to center of mitt and weave in ends.  Add claws where you see fit.  I just looped yarn over the top edge until it was thick enough.
